I can't stop thinking about baptism today

Good afternoon.

Today is a day when I would like to inundate you with quotes from other individuals - people who offer framework for my thoughts, people who have spoken more on the topics running through my head, people who are not in my shoes with my responsibilities. Sometimes historically recognized quotes can touch a person's nostalgic-nerve, or other times a leader can deflect responsibility for responses when offering another individual's words. Looking For Resurrection

Hello, people of God!

We began our last sermon series gathering in our sanctuary exploring the unique ways a man crossed the threshold of space and time and entered homes via television to share his values and understandings of the teaching of Jesus Christ. I stood in front of you during worship and jested about how radical Fred Rogers was for believing he could minister to families, from toddlers to teenagers to parents to grandparents, through a vehicle like a television set.

Searching for God's Temple

While I was working on my Master’s degree at Iliff School of Theology, there was a clear narrative about what classes were for PhD students, what classes were for PhD students that Master’s students could survive, and what classes were primarily for Master’s students. I decided to delve into one of those “Master’s students could survive” classes with Dr Amy Erickson.

The class was focused on the time after the 2nd Temple was destroyed in Jerusalem. For the first time in history, the Hebrew people needed to reestablish a relationship with a God that had previously lived in a house, the Temple. Much of their relationship had been centered around the Temple - it was where God lived, it was where they made pilgrimages, it was where they and the high priests conducted rituals and sacrifices.
